Highclere Hillclimb 14th December

The NWCC held the Tasmanian Hillclimb Championship at its Oonah Rd course on December 14th. This is the first time the championship has been held since 2005 so it is great to see the return of this event.
-
If you weren't there you missed a spectacular day of driving with a quality field for both the the club and championship event.
The atmosphere was electric around the start line for the final few runs.
The course record was broken twice, with Jason White in the slightly modified Orange Motorsport Engineering Subaru, taking it with his second last run of the day in a time of 29.59 seconds
The lead was then snatched back by previous record holder, Stephen Mott driving the home built Quoll MB01 in his final run of the day with a blistering time of 29.44 seconds, cutting his previous record by more than half a second and also winning the State Hillclimb Championship in the process.

BJR Rally Sprint - Oonah 10th Nov2018

Despite some rain 21 competitors, and a lot more spectators, enjoyed a quality day of rallysprint at Oonah. While some bollards took a beating, and one car ending on its roof, the day ran relatively smoothly.
Please note, that to overcome a timing software bug, cars that did not compete or finish in the final run were given a nominal time of around 8 minutes so that results for all other runs would appear in the overall event results.

From the outside looking in –

Well done everybody on another very successful hillclimb. Considering it was as close as possible to a “full dress rehearsal” for the biggest hillclimb we are about to undertake was fantastic.

Thanks again to BJR for their fantastic sponsorship and the added bonus instore voucher to boost their trophies. Support our sponsors as they are our greatest supporters. Thanks to Roger Carter and his equipment for the Subaru rescue as well.

Great job by Brooksy and his band of helpers and everybody running around on the day. People like the Junior and Senior Van Der Drift’s that not only compete but also help set up and pack up. That’s just to name a few.

The buses were good but we will refine that even more for April in particular the added extra parking at the railway road closure. There will be many more officials need on the day and a briefing will be held for them pre-event. The pits for competitors only and the service road for officials only worked well. We just need to make it a bit better for spectators backwards and forwards to their parking spot but as stated we will refine the bus run a bit better.

Great job by all. Please all come back for the April 1 event as your assistance will be required and greatly appreciated.

As a closer, Yvonne told me that she had beaten Jack. What she meant was that she was faster than him 3 times out of the 6 but Jack came out on top by .11 of a second so sorry Jack.

(it was close though wasn’t it)

ANDERSONS AUTOTEST #2 April 8th

Posted by Dave Cleland on

ANDERSONS AUTOTEST #2 April 8th

Saturday morning started with little promise of fun day with rain falling Intermittantly,

however proceedings commenced on time at 11.00 am.
At times the sun came out and then an odd bout of rain fell but the event continued on smoothly.

31 competitors, including 10 juniors, enjoyed the slippery conditions with some of the more experienced drivers losing rhythm on their way and spinning out on the back corner.

The drivers lined up for the morning briefing in damp conditions
The course was swapped around several times.
The top 8 drivers for the day lined up for the King of the Paddock shootout in the NWCC Red Hyundai Lantra (the equaliser)

Consistency is the key to a good result at the end of the day.

Outright winner of the day was Stephen Turner.

The top 8 shootout for King of the Paddock was tightly contested, with the first four within three tenths of a second, but Jarom Rhind won out to take the crown.

NEW CLUB CAR - REBUILD & SOCIAL EVENINGS

New Club Car - Junior Development and social evenings
Thanks to a very generous donation by Eddie Maguire, our club is now in possession of a Hyundai Lantra rally car.  The car was one of two built by Wayne Bell for Hyundai Australia to compete in the 1994 Asia Pacific championship, in which it won the formula two category, so it comes with some interesting history. The car will be ideal for juniors or club members to compete at various club events in and could even be used for other purposes such as zero car in rallies or promotion of our club....

Before the Lantra can be used however, it needs a general tidy up and some. . . .
